Session Description

Succession planning is only partly about grooming the right person for the job. It also about the job itself. Think about when you succeeded someone. Could it have gone better?

In this 60-minute interactive presentation, Steven Ouellette, ME, CMC® will discuss the other side of succession planning – creating a job that minimizes disruption and maximizes the success of the person you have placed into it.

  • Observe that there are two sides of succession planning, grooming the replacement and the job that they are to take over.
  • Understand elements of how to define and measure success in management and in succession.
  • Understand the benefits of creating a job that is easy for a successor to move into

 

Presenter Biography

Steve Ouellette started his career as a metallurgical engineer, but branched off into management consulting in 1996. He has consulted at Fortune 100 companies and startups for over 20 years. After the publication of Business Performance Excellence, he was called upon to consult full time within the University of Colorado, Boulder, bringing the approach that had worked in private business into higher education. Over the next three years, these approaches were modified for higher ed and achieved some great successes through the hard work of his clients. He is currently the Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager at the Office for Information Technology at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
