Instructor: Eric Olsen, PhD – Director of Central Coast Lean, Professor and Chair of Industrial Technology and Packaging at Cal Poly.


Dr. Eric Olsen is Area Chair and Professor of Industrial Technology at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California. Dr. Olsen teaches courses in lean thinking and Six Sigma. Dr. Olsen had over 20 years of industry experience in engineering and manufacturing management before getting his Ph.D. at Ohio State. Dr. Olsen continues his professional development with a focus on creating new lean knowledge, biasing his research towards working with real companies and organizations. He is also the Director of Central Coast Lean, a cross sector, community building research project in the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly.


Webinar Description:

Why does leading an organization through a lean transformation have to be so hard? What are lean leadership skills, capabilities, qualities, and characteristics are different than just plain old “good leadership”? What is a leader’s job in creating a lean culture, particularly in higher education? In this 60 minute webinar, Dr. Olsen will lead a discussion that will shed some light on these question and give leaders at all levels of and organization a place to start. Participants will gain insight to what they already know by engaging with peers already further along in their own lean transformations.

  1. Know simple leadership behaviors and attitudes that are supportive of a lean culture.
